the one with all the water

Here is my little punkin who is 16 weeks old today!!!
She is doing so many amazing things. Everyday she does something new. She has become so expressive and communicative. I have recently noticed that she is really communicating with her eyes. She will look at something that she wants! For example, she will stare at a toy near her until I give it to her. This morning she was in the bed with me after a feeding, and she was looking at her bed. Sure enough I put her in it and she went right to sleep. I am just amazed by her ability to communicate even at her age. She actually will "make choices" with her eyes. I will hold up two things and she will look at one over the other to let her preference be known. (Jared thinks I am a little nuts and doesn't believe me that she is making choices, but I have worked with lots of pre-verbal kiddos and I know what I am talking about here!) Sometimes I think we don't give babies enough credit for what they understand and can do. I can't wait to start baby sign with her! It won't be long now.
She also has become very purposeful with her hands! She is reaching (albeit uncoordinated) for us and for things. She actually knocked my ice cream cone almost right out of my hand on Saturday after showing some definite interest in it. She is reaching for faces and toys. She actually was "petting" Sunny (the cat) today. She was laying beside her on the bed and Maya grabbed handful of fur (I momentarily freaked not knowing what Sunny would do, but she just layed there :o). Maya kept grabbing at her and "petting". She loves to scratch things too. She will scratch the texture on the couch, her carseat, and changing table. She grabbed for her quilt today while she was in her crib. She is such a blanket baby! We don't go anywhere without her "lovey". She also gives "high five". I hold up my hand in front of her and say "high five" and she (again very uncoordinated) will swing her hand towards mine :o) I LOVE IT! She has been having a blast in her exersaucer and has figured out how to manipulate several of the toys. She stares intently at the buttons that play music and then bangs her hands on them to make them play.
So, today was all about the water! We got the baby pool out again and she enjoyed sitting in it and splashing her feet. We got our pool time in just in time because the sky opened up and poured down. We sat outside in our favorite spot, the covered deck, and just watched the rain. Maya was very intrigued by it. Also, I took the newborn sling out of her bathtub today (a little tear for mommy here) and she went to town kicking and splashing. It was so adorable! And she just looks so big! Here are photos from our water-filled weekend.

Look at this big girl standing up! She LOVES to stand. We think she looks like the Michelin man here-look at those arm rolls! Yeah, remember that weight gain issue? I think it is no more!

And of course, Daddy had to make the mohawk

And then came the rain.....

I am having so much fun in my bath :o)

Yeah, I think she's pretty cute :o) And yes, I am very biased! Happy week everyone!

Cute pics! Being an SLP, I know what you mean about babies and their growing communication skills! It's amazing what they can do while so young. Seeing the kiddos that we have seen, makes you notice and appreciate each eye gaze and facial expression!
