the one with the practice run

Well, we now have a pretty good idea of everything that is going to happen when we go to the hospital for real. I called my dr. this afternoon because my feet and hands were swelling pretty good. They initially told me to come in for an appointment tomorrow, but then called back about 20 minutes later and said they wanted me to go ahead and go to the hospital to get my blood pressure checked. I was feeling pretty silly because I have not had any blood pressure problems the whole time and I was just at the OB on Monday, but they didn't want to take any chances.

Jared (poor thing) was stuck on the interstate and my Mom and Jenny were on their way to my house anyway so they picked me up and took me to the hospital. Somehow Jared still beat us there-probably because I was throwing last minute stuff in my suitcase. :o)

So we got there and checked in. The took me to a L&D room and asked a 1,000 questions-the good thing is that all that info will already be in the computer and we won't need to do it again! I was hooked up to a fetal monitor and a contraction monitor and a blood pressure cuff. My blood pressure was completely normal and the baby's heart rate was fine. I did register about six contractions on the monitor, which was really validating because then I knew for sure that what I have been feeling are contractions! They still seem to be just Braxton-Hicks because they don't really hurt. They drew some blood, and the doctor wants me to rest and they will call me tomorrow with the results of my bloodwork and we will go from there. Then they sent us home.

While I am glad that I am probably going to be able to get another week of work in (which means another week of paid time off), we were both a little disappointed. We thought there might be a small chance that they would just say that we were going to go ahead with this tonight! We are definitely excited about the to be very soon arrival of Ms. Maya!
