yeah…we are a little insane

We had our first night out without Maya all night last night for our wedding anniversary. We did have a great time, but I sure did miss her. All week I was looking forward to getting a good night’s sleep, but I slept HORRIBLE because all I did was kept waking up and wondering if she was doing okay. I really never sleep too well when I am not in my own bed, but had hoped to get some sleep without the “mommy call” every few hours.

This was little missy before we left. She looks like such a big girl to me here :)IMG_8568 copy IMG_8569 copy IMG_8570 copy IMG_8573 copy IMG_8579

We started out the evening at my favorite pedicure place and YES my husband got a pedicure with me. He liked it too! (really why wouldn’t you???) It was really fun to do that together.

He didn’t get polish though –ha ha!IMG_8583 copy

Then we checked into our hotel to get showered and cleaned up for dinner. We went to Wild Ginger for dinner. It was delicious! And it really is such a fun atmosphere. We had a great time. Then we went to get coffee and sat out on our balcony. It was a beautiful evening.

We decided to go down to Boscos for a drink which was right across the parking lot and then we relaxed in the hotel’s hot tub. We really enjoyed our evening out, but we were ready to go get our girl this morning. It was also a beautiful morning, and we saw these hot air balloons from our room.

After picking up Maya, we went to Lowe’s to look at some paint samples at Lowe’s (I was inspired by a color that I saw at Wild Ginger). We had a red kitchen and had decided that buyer’s might not want red.

So….we bought samples….

Tried them out…… no turning back now :)

And here is the result with “before pictures” below. I was happy with it, and hopefully potential buyers will be too!

I think it looks much brighter and clean looking :)

Miss Maya had a VERY hard day today. She has had a rough couple of days with being sick, getting stung by a bee, and her teeth seem to be really bothering her. I guess disrupting her routine while we were gone last night, probably didn’t help either.

I would say that today ranked the hardest thus far for her challenging behavior. EVERYTHING caused a tantrum. Anything we told her or asked her to do, or if she didn’t get something just the way she wanted, it ended in a tantrum. I ended up having to put her in her bed and turn my back to her and wait for her to calm down. You guys that know me, know I deal with significant behaviors in my job. This ranked right up there with some of them. Wow…it was one of the hardest days that we have had thus far as parents. I really hope that she gets a good night’s rest tonight and we start better tomorrow.

As I said, I deal with some pretty challenging behaviors in my job, but it was MUCH different being my own child. With kids at work, it is easy for me to separate myself while they are screaming/crying etc, and know that I am doing what is right for them. It was much harder to do that with Maya. She was screaming her little head off and it literally broke my heart. I turned my head and did what I had to do because I knew that I had to teach her that this was not an appropriate way to behave, but it hurt my heart.

I think that her behavior today was a combination of things, and I really hope that this is not the beginnings of a really difficult phase. She is a very strong-willed, independent little girl. Those traits will serve her well in her life, but they may cause a few gray hairs for Mommy and Daddy in her young life.

There were rays of sunshine today though. And I will be grateful for those right along with the challenges that will make us stronger.

So that about sums it up; anniversary evening/Maya’s first night away from home/painting the kitchen (in 5 hours start to finish no less)/CHALLENGING behaviors/oh, and tomorrow we are doing a 5K first thing in the morning…..

-----yeah, we might be a little insane, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
