Today was Maya’s first day of school! I took a half day so that I could take her and pick her up her first day.
I tried to get a first day of school picture. Yeah..Maya wanted to play with the lock box and sign “airplane” instead :)
We got there a little early and got to play in the gym with the toys. Maya thought that was pretty fun :)
I think school was a bit of a different story. She didn’t cry before we left, though. Maya went straight over to an elmo that she has found every time we have visited. Her teacher said, “since she’s playing, now would be good for you to go”. So, Jared and I went over to kiss her good-bye and I started to tear up. I told Jared that we needed to go NOW! because I was about to lose it, and I knew that if she started crying, that I probably wouldn’t have left her.
So, I called after a few hours, and they said that they had had a good morning, but transitions had been hard, and she was playing on the playground at the time.
When I went to pick her up, they told me that she had a hard time at nap time and they actually had to take her out of the room because she was crying and there were kids sleeping. They apparently did a lot of walking in the hallway during nap. They said that she cried off and on, but did eventually fall asleep, but she only slept 30 minutes.
This is what I saw when I went to pick her up. She wasn’t crying!
She was pretty cute when I got there, she started pointing to elmo and then she also lead me over to the door to the playground. She seemed to be telling me “these were the two things I liked mom” :)
I asked her questions about school today and this is what I got:
1. Did you take a nap at school? (head shake “no”)
2. Did you swing at school? (yes)
3. Did you like school? (no)
4. Did you like your teachers? (yes)
5. Did you play with elmo? (yes)
6. Do you want to go back to school? (no)
:) We’ll see how next week goes!
