our city is drowning

It is overwhelming to watch and listen to the devastation in Nashville. It is absolutely unbelievable. While it is better in many areas, such as the area I photographed yesterday, it is so much worse downtown where the Cumberland River has reached over 50 feet and has spilled into the streets of downtown. Opryland Hotel is also covered up with water. The Opry House that I graduated high school in is under water. The Titans football stadium is under water. The Bridgestone Arena (formly known as GEC and a variety of other names) is under water. The Wildhorse Saloon is under water. I can’t describe what it feels like to watch our beautiful city sinking. It feels like my memories are floating in the water. I know that we will recover because this is a wonderful city, but the current devastation is hard to swallow. I feel the most for the families that are displaced from homes and have suffered unimaginable property damage. I also feel for the business owners who have had to watch their businesses wash away. And the death toll is now up to 10 people. I feel for those families of lost loved ones.

There are concerns about our water supply and residents have been asked to conserve water, not to take showers or baths, and to use water only for cooking or drinking.

These pictures are ones that have been posted on Twitter:

This is a powerful video of the Nashville floods:

I am certainly holding my loved ones tight tonight. And this little girl is always my shining light. Here are some photos of her with her first pigtails. (as you can see, i can’t stop with photoshop)

Please keep praying for our beautiful city.

It's pretty astounding when something this catastrophic happens in your back yard and you feel helpless to help. I remember when my parents house flooded during hurricane Wilma and it was scary. We are so happy that you guys are safe and sound and we hope that things start to recede and dry up soon.
