the other situation

For people outside of Nashville, that is what the Nashville flooding has been dubbed as (the first situation was our 2010 snowstorm)

I don’t think anyone had any idea that this storm was going to end up being what it has become. We had warnings of flooding, but we have never had anything of this nature here in my lifetime.

Maya and I met Mom and Dad at the mall on Saturday morning because we wanted to get out of the house. Maya got to play on these:

(sorry for the terrible cell phone pictures)

This one is for my Papa who worked on John Deere tractors for many years :)

While we were at the mall, Jared called to tell me that tornados were spotted and to check on where we were. He was also concerned about my car because he had heard that there were cars underwater in the parking lot. We decided to leave pretty quickly after that. Leaving the mall, we saw that roads were already blocked off and water was flowing down the streets. We couldn’t get on the interstate because of an accident. We managed to make it back to Mom and Dad’s house and then a few hours later I managed to make it home without too much trouble.

Yesterday afternoon I saw awful images on the TV like this and this and this. Cars were turned into boats on the interstate. I have never seen anything like this and it was hard to fathom that it was happening right here in our city. We have been glued to the media coverage because we just can’t look away. It is devastating and unbelievable. And believe it or not it is still raining. Areas all over Middle Tennessee have been affected. There is awful flooding in Antioch and Franklin. We got out to drive a little this afternoon and couldn’t even pass the road to get to our new house. We saw on the news tonight where our old condo in Bellevue appears to be under water. We watched rescue boats going down and back over the interstate to get people from neighborhoods and bring them to safety.

These are the devastating images just minutes away from us:

Concord Road was blocked off and impassable

this is where we had to turn around on Nolensville Road

Several homes submerged by water

water flowed alongside the road and you could see in many areas where it had covered the road

this is supposed to be Culberson Road

And our damage is nowhere near what others in our area our facing, but we have a leak in our roof in the bathroom and water is coming through-ugh

There have been at least six confirmed deaths due to flooding, numerous neighborhoods have been evacuated, businesses and homes ruined, school systems are closed, and Middle Tennessee has been declared a state of emergency.

My heart goes out to the many, many people displaced from their homes and those who have lost loved ones.

Please keep our city in your prayers.
