Cali (our now 75lb black lab) is absolutely unbelievable! She has had some sort of eye issue going on for several weeks now. We took her in November and she had a scratched cornea. They gave us drops and it got better. Since then it has gotten worse and better, worse and better. We finally decided to take her back in tonight.
To give you a little background, Cali used to love to go the vet, and she had one very bad experience that has scarred her for life. The last time I took her to the vet, they could not give her her shots because she was so freaked out. I had to bring her back after giving her a sedative. Even with the sedative, Jared still had to hold her down to get the shots. Cali whines when we even drive in the direction of the vet. She loves cars and only whines when we turn toward the vet office. Who ever heard of a dog with a sense of driving directions??!!!
Back to today. ... So, we take her in, and when we get there, the vet comes in with two assistants (Cali has a bit of a reputation). They tell us that they are going to have to muzzle her, which we then say "you better let us do that". (In the past, when the vet has tried to muzzle her, she has cried like she is in some sort of chinese torture device). They give the muzzle to Jared and he cannot get it on her. I suggest that maybe the vet posse leave the room, they do, and he finally gets it on her. They come back and tell us that they have to hold a piece of paper on each of her eyes for ONE MINUTE! to check her tear production. ARE YOU KIDDING ME????!!!! There is no way in the world that this high maintenance dog is ever going to let that happen. The vet tries for several minutes and then finallly gives up. She says that there is no way that she is ever going to get the information she needs without sedating her. So our options were to go ahead and treat for possible "dry eyes" or do the sedation to check for ulcers. The vet felt that either condition would be serious and not something that will resolve quickly. So, now Cali will be dropped off next Friday for sedation and an eye exam.
Seriously, Cali, seriously! Oh well, what can you do??? We have no hope if any of our children are as high maintenance as our dog :o)

Ha! That makes me laugh...only because I'm dumb enough to take Tucker to a doggie eye dr, where they did do that paper test...thank goodness for having a smaller dog! He was NOT sedated! What an ordeal for you!
That is comical... only because it was not me having to deal with it. Our dog loves anything... give him a shot but be sure you give him lots of hugs in the process... hahaha, He's very social (and apparently has a very short memory and a high pain threshold)!
Sorry you had to deal with that, I sure hope everything is okay with her eye!
