a haircut, potty training, and the witching hour

Apparently I like making up random word post titles for my weekends.

Somebody got her first salon haircut on Saturday. It was BADLY needed as you can see:IMAG0095

We went to a cute little place called “Divas and Dudes”. She had the funniest look on her face the whole time like she wasn’t too sure about all of it. But, every time the lady asked her if she wanted something (a braid, glitter in her hair, a star of on her face) she said yes. She did so well! I really wasn’t sure what to expect.

She even got a “buzzy buzzy” (butterfly) cape.IMAG0098

and a princess crown that she did not take off until it was time for bed!

I managed to snap this shot quickly with my phone in the parking lot:

(side note: I can pretty much guarantee that Pops will never set foot in that place again. and I will admit it is a bit “toddler-and-tiara-esque”)IMAG0100

I worked a little on potty training this weekend. I found a potty app on the ipad (yes, there’s an app for that). It has a little interactive story book. I also bought her pull-ups so that she could be a little more independent. She actually peed in the potty three times yesterday! Just for kicks imagine nursing a baby and chasing a toddler screaming that she has to pee to the potty and yes, you have now just imagined my life.

We didn’t have as much success today but she is telling me each time she pees, we just aren’t making it to the potty in time. I am actually super proud of how well she is doing because she is really starting to initiate going.

Here are some pictures of her hair and crown with my “real” camera.IMG_5926IMG_5940

I was playing around with some photos of Gray in a basket. I didn’t really like any of them, but look how HUGE he looks! Did I mention that I have a 14lb two month old???!!!!!IMG_5958IMG_5963

Sweet boy!IMG_5981

Ahhh….the witching hourIMG_5986

Really it is two hours at my house 5-7pm…Tonight was particularly wonderful (insert severe sarcasm) I keep playing around with our routine trying to figure out the best way to do dinner, bath, bed on my solo nights. I haven’t found the best way yet. I keep trying to simplify dinners and today I even did stuff ahead of time in the afternoon. Gray just is not a happy camper during that time. He wants to be held and it is the one time of day that I really can’t hold him. I do put him in my sling sometimes but it is still pretty limiting to be able to manage a toddler with an infant strapped to you. Poor guy screamed a lot tonight. I hate that but sometimes there just isn’t a choice. We ate dinner and then I took them both back for baths. I have figured out to get Maya in the tub then get Gray bathed and then get him out and then bathe her. However, tonight I put her in and was starting to get him, when she started screaming and crying  “Mommy I pee-pee”. In my head, I’m going “YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME”, but on the outside I grab her and put her on our potty and grab Gray who is now screaming because I put him down. So I am standing in our teeny water closet with a infant screaming his head off and a toddler screaming and crying because she has to pee (imagine the echo in that little room). I just looked at them both and said “Really guys? Maybe we could try not to completely lose it at the SAME time”. She does not pee and back in the tub we go for round two. I bathe them both and get Gray out, dry him off, and lay him down to finish hers. He screams and then she starts screaming again about needing to go pee pee. So I scoop her out and run her to the potty again, then grab the other screaming child. Still no potty success today after all that.

Ahh…the witching hour(s)…Where is my wine? (smile)

I ended the night rocking both of my babies in the rocking chair and those moments make all the rest totally worth it…
