She is the one in the water with the teacher. This is a terrible-quality-cropped-from-far-away cell phone picture but do you know what that means? It means that I was sitting on the bleachers on the other side of the pool watching. Not on the side of the pool like the first day and not hiding in the corner on the floor watching from behind tables and chairs where she couldn’t see me like the second day.
I can’t even explain how proud I am of her. Her teachers might think I’m crazy because I am always so excited when I get her after class. (Although they were there the first day so they might be just as excited) Yesterday, I left her with the teachers and high-tailed it to hide because I had decided that I needed to try to be where she couldn’t see me. She cried a little and looked for me but stayed in the pool for the whole class. She didn’t do much but she was in the pool and I couldn’t have been prouder. I got her a special turtle toy that I had promised her if she stayed in the pool. She was pretty proud and rode around like this for 10 minutes in Target.
This morning we were running through what we were doing that day and I had said that she had swim lessons. She said “mommy I want you to sit where I can see you”. I said that I would as long as she stayed in the pool. So tonight I sat on the bleachers and watched her. She tried several things and even floated on her back with help. She looked up and saw me and smiled. She had fun at swim lessons!
This is a learning experience for both of us and I’m calling it a success. So proud of my little swimmer!
