my 8 month old

Maya Grace 8 months old

My 8 month old is wearing 12 month clothes and size 3 diapers. I don’t know how much she weighs, but she has really slimmed down, especially in her little tummy. She is one LONG little girl. She is crawling all over the place, though it is still an army crawl. I don’t know that she will ever crawl on hands and knees because she is fast and can get wherever she wants on her tummy. She sits for indefinite periods of time, but will occasionally forget and topple backwards. She is able to go from sitting to her tummy. She is now trying to get up into a sitting position from the floor. She rolls to her side and tries to pull up. She is making all sorts of sounds and combining lots of consonants and vowels. She has a true “babble’ now. She is constantly trying to “tell” us things. She turns the pages in a book and anticipates us reading the pages to her. She manipulates lots of toys in different ways. She “wiggle wiggles” all the time-hilarious! Her imitation of sounds and actions is pretty good. She gets very excited when Mommy comes home or picks her up. She flaps her arms when she is excited and happy. She bounces on her belly like a seal when she wants to be picked up. She gives “kisses” which really consist of her opening her mouth wide and leaning into your face-I LOVE IT! She can stand for several seconds leaning against a piece of furniture. She is a very social baby who smiles, squeals, and spits (oops) at passersby. She has just begun playing “shy” with new people where she will bury her head in my chest when she sees a new person. She is taking baths like a big girl with no baby tub anymore.

She shows definite preferences for activities and people (these days it’s mommy). She drinks from a sippy cup with some help to tip it up. She also likes to try to “help” feed herself with a spoon. She has added green beans, oatmeal, and carrots to her repertoire. We have started giving her little organic puffs, but she isn’t too  interested in anything but playing with those. Next, we are going to be starting some meats. I am thinking her first will be turkey this week! She also still really likes to drink out of open cups and also likes to drink out of Mommy’s water bottle.

She sleeps in her big girl crib for most of the night; until 3am if I am lucky, 12am if I am not. She has her first tooth breaking through on the bottom! We just noticed it yesterday. I have to say I am gonna miss those gummy smiles!

She is such a sweet, adorable baby and I am one proud mommy!   I am so, so thankful for this precious gift that I have been given. There is not one day that goes by that I don’t thank God for her.
