holiday fun

There are some new ornaments on our tree. Mom got this one for us for our first trip to the beach. Love it.IMG_4530

My amazingly thoughtful blog friend sent these ornaments to us this week. She is quite crafty!IMG_4531

Disney ornaments that she made for the kids….so adorable!IMG_4532IMG_4536

Thank you Rachel!

Friday we visited Cheekwood, which if it weren’t for the cool trains, we would have been very disappointed. I remember there being lots of neat trees there when we went for field trips as kids. We could only see three of the trees (and it was in an extremely non kid-friendly area). The Grinch tree was a huge disappointment for us Whoville fanatics.IMG_4665IMG_4667

Love this one of my kiddos and their amazing Mims!IMG_4669

Gray was a huge fan of the trains.IMG_4674

They did also have one treehouse left over from the exhibit that was pretty neat with a swing under it.IMG_4677

Saturday we saw the reindeer in BrentwoodIMG_0506

We saw Santa for the third time. Gray was less than enthused. Maya doesn’t look too thrilled either BUT she is all about seeing Santa. She insisted that we needed to see him again even though we have already seen him twice.IMG_0510

This morning Maya and I made holiday treats together and had so much fun.

Gray enjoyed some hot chocolate but he kept calling it “cossie” (coffee)

In the wake of the unimaginable events that occurred on Friday in Newtown, CT, I hug my babies a little tighter and feel so thankful for my time with them. I ache for those parents who are trying to make sense of the loss of their children.

I want to share this article because I truly believe that we cannot focus on gun control or prayer in schools or the media as the issues here, we have to focus on people and mental illness. This hits particularly close to home as now there are reports coming out that the gunman may have had an Asperger’s diagnosis. It is important to know that this type of behavior is not typical of a person with autism spectrum disorder. However, it does point to the need for targeted intervention as early as possible for persons suffering from a mental illness and their families.

I also hope and pray that it makes all of us stop and think about actions toward one another. You never know what lies behind the eyes of the people you meet everyday. Maybe the smile that you give them is the one thing that keeps them going that day. My prayer tonight is that we focus our efforts on love and respect for one another and try to change our world with one kind act at a time.
